Education in session

Mishell Magnusson, CIC, CISR, AAI , FIPC, instructed two CE classes during this year's convention: Flood insurance: How does that work? and Ethical issues in errors and omissions.

Agents had ample opportunity to earn CE credits at this year's convention; five timely education sessions were available. One of the most popular sessions, Flood insurance: How does that really work?, had instructor Mishell Magnusson, CIC, CISR, AAI, FIPC, asking attendees what they really knew about flood coverage provided by the National Flood Insurance Program. She questioned the commonly held definitions of words like “flood” and “basement,” resulting in interested looks from attendees. Magnusson stressed the importance of in-depth knowledge of the NFIP and eloquently pointed out, “If we don't know what these things are, how can we expect our insureds to know?”

Other education sessions included: Ethical issues in errors and omissions, also presented by Magnusson; Who's covered? Insureds and additional insureds; Errors and omissions: Reducing the risk, both presented by Cathy Trischan, CPCU, CRM, CIC, AU, AAI, CRIS, E&K Agency Inc.; and Understanding long-term care insurance—so you can market it to your clients, presented by Tobe Gerard, CSA , CLTC, MBA, MLS.

When asked on the success of the 2008 Annual Convention, Keating said, “This year's convention, like others in years past, offered agents the single largest opportunity in the state to meet with their peers, explore the latest innovations in the industry, earn CE credits and hear from government officials who support the independent agency system. The convention is just another example of the unparalleled value and service PIACT brings to independent agents, serving as an advocate for the small business owners and ensuring the voice of our membership is heard in a demanding marketplace.”
