PIANY honors Barquero and Skidmore with Moll and Kozel Scholarships

BROOKLYN, N.Y.– The Professional Insurance Agents of New York State Inc. selected Richard Barquero for the prestigious Bernard I. Kozel Memorial Scholarship and Melissa Skidmore for the prestigious Arthur I. Moll Memorial Scholarship . The awards will be presented Thursday, Jan. 24, at the Metropolitan Regional Awareness Program at the New York Marriot, Brooklyn, N.Y. Barquero is an account manager for Bellido Insurance Brokerage, Glendale, N.Y.; Skidmore is a customer service representative trainee for Ruchman Associates Inc., Rockville Centre, N.Y.

The scholarships provide full tuition coverage for two certified insurance service representative seminars conducted by PIANY. The awards will be presented during MetroRAP's luncheon.

In addition to the presentation of the scholarships, MetroRAP also will feature Stephen Kempf, regional director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, who will speak on disaster preparedness in the New York Metropolitan region. The event will also include two continuing education courses on flood insurance and errors and omissions coverage, an expansive trade show and a networking reception sponsored by the New York Young Insurance Professionals.

PIANY is a trade association representing professional, independent insurance agencies, brokerages and their employees throughout the state.

The Bernard I. Kozel Memorial Scholarship
In honor of Bernard I. Kozel, a longtime member of the insurance profession; the Kozel family has established a memorial scholarship in his name to provide an individual with tuition to two CISR seminars, conducted by PIA of New York.

The Arthur I. Moll Memorial Scholarship
In honor of Arthur I. Moll, past-president of PIA of New York and PIA National; PIANY has established a memorial scholarship to provide one individual with tuition to two CISR seminars, conducted by PIA of New York.

Criteria

In order to be eligible applicants must:

• Have less than five years’ experience in the insurance industry;
• Be employed on a full-time basis by a member of PIA of New York.
