CISR FAQs

Who Should Attend?
Open to any employee of an agency, insurance company or insurance-related business, the five CISR courses are designed in a one-day format letting you gain all the benefits of this education opportunity with only one day out of the office. Plus, you earn state-mandated continuing education credits.

Earning and Maintaining the CISR Designation
To earn the CISR designation, you must complete all five of the courses and exams within three calendar years following the year in which you successfully complete the first exam. However, anyone is welcome to attend the classes without taking the exams. There is no special order in which courses must be taken. If you are more familiar with a given topic, you may want to begin with that course.

Once you have successfully passed all 5 exams and earned the CISR designation, you must take one CISR program annually to maintain the designation. The deadline falls on the month of your birthday, so plan on taking a CISR update before your deadline each year to ensure that you remain in good standing with the Society of CISR. As a non-CE method CISR update option, you may attend 8 consecutive hours of a CIC institute * (earns 1 year of update credit. NO CE credit granted for this option.)

Your annual continuing education update requirement after earning the CISR designation may be satisfied in one of four ways:

  • You may attend any one of the five standard CISR courses
    (no exam required).
  • You may attend one day of any Certified Insurance Counselor Institute ( 8 consecutive hours of a CIC institute * earns 1 year of update credit. NO CE credit granted for this option.)
  • You may attend any William T. Hold Seminar. This is a one-day course designed for CISR designees. New for 2008 programs – In order to attend a William T. Hold Seminar, a designation holder MUST be dues-paid member of the Society of CISR, CRM or CIC.
  • Full attendance of a Dynamics of Service Program. CISRs are required to be dues-paying members of the Society of CISR to get update credit. (These programs are open to everyone, regardless of designation.) Topics vary from series to series as they apply to today's insurance market.

IMPORTANT: All participants must present photo identification to the registrar at the program location.
